Konnected People is the brainchild of Julie Kortens whose depth of experience, and deep-seated belief that people matter, underpins everything. Many organisations talk a good talk but haven’t lived it. Julie has, having successfully established and led Channel 4’s corporate services division, and served as chairman of BIFM. Konnected People is inspired by Julie’s passion for helping others to be the best they can be. Our company is founded on the premise that everyone has something incredibly valuable to offer.

Julie Kortens, MD

Julie Kortens has been providing people-oriented leadership and inspiration for decades and she is the inspiration behind Konnected People.

Julie led Channel 4’s corporate services division until April 2016, having also established the broadcaster’s first ever facilities management and indirect procurement departments. Julie had responsibility for the broadcaster’s property portfolio and led a multi-million pound refurbishment project to transform the broadcaster’s headquarters building in central London from a technical transmission centre to a multi-functional, creative and collaborative hub. Staff engagement and team building have always been at the heart of Julie’s leadership approach.

Julie served as the 12th Chairman of the BIFM (now IWFM) between July 2014 and December 2016. She is passionate about FM and flies the flag for the profession and the industry as a whole. She has won numerous industry awards, including the coveted BIFM FM of the Year and is now an Honorary Fellow of the Institute.

Julie is a Non-Executive Director with Intu Retail Services and sits on the FM RE-Procurement Board of Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Services (HMCTS). She is an independent member of both the Group Risk & Compliance and the Group Remuneration & Nominations Committee with Aster Group. She’s also a Chartered Fellow the CIPD and has an MA in Employment Strategy.

Julie is a people person and is incredibly focused on developing those around her. She loves working with individuals, leaders, teams and businesses to help them fulfil their potential, achieve their objectives, and be the best they can be. Her aim is to make a real difference. She is authentic and honest and doesn’t pretend to be someone she’s not. What you see is what you get.

She uses her experience to challenge clients and corporations to really get underneath their DNA.

Vicky is a motivational speaker, coach and independent trainer / facilitator. She is also a DISC practitioner and this combination is why Vicky’s clients engage and recommend her, with words like “fun, productive and enthusiastically led”.

With her life moto  “you only have one lap of this thing called LIFE. So if you’re in the wrong lane, you are the one in the driving seat, indicate and change lanes” you can understand how Vicky can be described as having a passionate and enthusiastic personality that is contagious.

Diane’s HR career has spanned a variety of industries and blue-chip companies including Channel 4 Television, The Walt Disney Company, Diageo, Motorola and BOC.

She was named as one of HR Director Magazine’s Most Influential HR Practitioners in 2014. She has a strong track record in leading complex strategic change, both in growth and decline situations, including outsourcing, M&A, cost reduction, redundancy programmes, culture change, and organization redesign.

Diane’s career has spanned Europe, Middle East, Africa and the US, operating across cultures in multiple language (French, Spanish and Italian). She is a fully qualified and experienced executive coach and mentor, NLP practitioner, accredited mediator and is qualified in a variety of psychometric tools including MBTI, ECI and StrengthScope. She holds a BA (Hons) in Romance Languages, Literature and Linguistics, an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and is currently researching for a PhD in the psychology of creativity in organisations.

Susan Hayward

Qualified and experienced mental health awareness trainer

Susan is a mental health awareness and first aid course trainer (accredited to Mental Health First Aid England).

She has a business background (sales and marketing to director level in the chemical industry) and began working for herself in 2014 following cancer treatment. A Londoner by birth she lived internationally before returning to the UK in 2005.

Susan’s experience in matters psychological includes founding the national ADHD support group in Zimbabwe in 1997 and having GPs refer a wide variety of conditions to her and the group where there was no other local support. Amongst colleagues, friends and family there have been eating disorders, self-harm, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder, phobias, panic attacks, PTSD, OCD, in other words – most areas of mental ill health.

She understands the impact of mental health on business and from the human support and caring point of view. It is her goal to make a difference one course at a time, one person at a time. The courses she can offer are aimed at adults over 16 years (MHFA Adult and Lite) and young people aged 8 to 18 years (MHFA Youth and Youth Lite) and are a half day, one day or two days in length.

Susan’s personal hashtag is #changeonething. If we can adopt a small (even tiny) change then continuous personal development is liberating not something to be feared.

Robert is Managing Director of Assured Safety & Risk Management Ltd and Chairman of the Health & Safety Specialist Interest Group at the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM – now IWFM).

As a Health & Safety Consultant he offers clear, no-nonsense advice and training to help facilitate organisational change, empower individuals and attain an organisational goal of zero accidents.

With over 20 years’ experience, he provides expert advice to the UK Government, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and to many businesses.

Apartment 6 is the brainchild of Charlie Kortens, an NCTJ qualified journalist. He has spent several years editing various B2B titles including Facilities Management Journal, Cleaning and Hygiene Today and New Food. These roles involved sourcing, writing and editing copy for both online and print sources. He is experienced at writing interviews, cutting edge news stories, full features, thought leadership pieces and more.

Charlie has worked for a variety of companies, providing a whole host of content services. These include social media assistance, blog writing, communications and helping set up and market events and conferences.  He believes that there is genius in simplicity and that the best content communicates an idea as clearly and simply as possible. Charlie strives to keep this in mind whenever he produces, edits or commissions work.
