On 15 October 2019, Julie Kortens was proud to become Chair of Judges for the IWFM Awards. This short article by Julie appeared in the November’s edition of Facilitate Magazine (page 40):

Julie Kortens … is Chair of Judges for IWFM Awards

As many of you know, I have been associated with the FM industry, the IWFM (BIFM) and the Awards for many years now. I’ve been attending the ceremony for many years and I know just how much these awards can mean because, in 2010, I was honoured to be recognised as FM of the Year, which was a career highlight for me and something I am still incredibly proud of.

For many years the BIFM Awards celebrated the very best our industry has to offer, and the IWFM Awards are now carrying on that proud tradition. I have played a part as Chairman of the Institute, as a Judge, a Lead Judge and most recently as Deputy Chair of Judges. Now that I have been announced as Chair of Judges, I look forward to continuing the great work
of previous Chair, Steve Gladwin, by continuing to evolve the judging process of what are the most prestigious and well respected awards in the industry.

The Awards have always been underpinned by rigorous governance and that is something that absolutely will not change. My immediate aim, however, is to increase our pool of judges in order to ensure that we have a strong foundation to build on should we decide to change or expand our judging criteria. A large part of this will involve encouraging more diversity in our judging panels.

But, I don’t want to talk too much about the future at this point, the 2019 Awards have only just taken place and we should be congratulating the most recent winners, and indeed all of the nominees. As I’ve said, the Awards recognise the great work of the people in our industry, which all too often goes uncelebrated. So for the moment, let’s take a little more time to celebrate our industry… and, watch this space for more information over the coming months.
